SOFTBALL EARNS NO. 2 SEED IN MAC TOURNAMENT: After winning its first Mid-American Conference divisional title, the Eastern Michigan University softball team earned the No. 2 seed in the MAC Tournament and will square-off with Ohio University in the opening round, May 9, at 1:30 p.m. The double-elimination tournament is held at Currie Field in Midland, Mich, May 9-12.

THE MAC WEST CROWN:
The Eagles won the MAC West Division title with a 13-5 record, two games ahead of Central Michigan University. The divisional crown is the first in school history. The .722 winning percentage is also the best in school history.

EMU AND THE MAC WEST CROWN:
Only five teams in EMU history have won the MAC West Division title since the conference split into two division during the 1997-98 campaign. The 2007 softball team joins the 2004 and 2006 women’s basketball teams, the 2003 baseball squad and the 2006 volleyball team as the school’s only divisional champions.

EMU AND THE MAC TOURNAMENT:
By claiming the MAC West Division title, EMU qualified for the MAC Tournament for the third straight season and seventh time in school history The squad earned the No. 2 seed in the MAC Tournament, the highest in school history. Last season the Eagles earned the No. 5 seed and advanced to the semi final round before being eliminated by eventual champion Kent State University.

EAGLES SWEEP PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARDS:
Sophomore Heather Han was named MAC West Division Co-Player of the Week and senior Aimee Woodrum was named MAC West Division Pitcher of the Week, for the period ending May 6, as the Eagles swept the weekly awards for the first time this season. Han batted .467 (7-for-15) to help the Eagles to a perfect 4-0 mark in league action. Han connected on three home runs and a double. She posted multi hit games against Akron and Ohio and a perfect 2-for-2 game with a double against No. 10 Michigan.
   Woodrum threw back-to-back one-hitters to lead the Eagles to their first ever MAC West Division title. Woodrum posted a 1.05 ERA and a 2-1 record. She logged 20 innings and added 12 strikeouts. Woodrum threw a complete game one-hit shutout against Akron and limited Ohio to just one hit following day. Woodrum was also on the losing end of a 3-0 pitcher’s duel against No. 10 Michigan.

MAC TEAM RANKINGS:
EMU finished the regular season ranked third in the MAC in both hitting and pitching in conference games. The Eagles posted a .281 team batting average and 1.56 team ERA. EMU finished fourth in team defense with a .966 team fielding percentage.

MAC INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS:
Freshman Jenny Scherer led the league in home runs (eight), RBI (20) and total bases (55) in conference games. Senior Lauren Clark led the league in doubles (10) and finished second in runs scored (18) and batting average (.433). Clark finished third in the league hits with 29. Senior Michelle Lloyd ranked second in the league in ERA with a 1.16 clip.

SCHERER EXCELLENCE:
Freshman Jenny Scherer has made a huge impact for the Eagles this season. Scherer is currently leading EMU in home runs (11), RBI (35) and extra-base hits (24). The 11 home runs is the second most by any Eagle in a single-season. Only three players have ever hit double digit homers, with senior Lauren Clark hitting a record-setting 13 during the 2006 season.

GOING FOR 100:
Sixth year head coach Karen Baird is just seven wins shy of the 100 win mark at EMU. Baird is currently 93-140 at the helm for the Eagles, increasing the Green and White’s winning percentage in each of her first five seasons. Only two coaches in school history have registered more wins then Baird with Nancy Oestrike (106) and Connie Miller (270) totaling the most victories.

EAGLES NEST: The Eagles posted a 6-2 record at home this year. Over the past three season, The Green and White have posted a 31-8 record at Varsity Field. Due to snowed out games, the Eagles played just eight games at home this season.

CENTURY MARK:
Senior Lauren Clark has driven in 15 runs this year, giving her 92 career RBI, leaving her eight shy of 100. Only two players in EMU history have drove in more than 100 runs, Melissa Droullard who holds the record with 124 and Kristie Berry knocked in 118.

CLARK SETS ALL-TIME HOME RUN:
Senior Lauren Clark blasted her 20th career home run against Northern Illinois, March 30, to give her sole possession of the EMU career home run record. Clark entered the season in a three-way tie atop the list with Melissa Drouillard and Nikki Denman who each cranked out 19 career homers. Clark has hit four homers this season, extending her lead to 23 career home runs. Senior Lindsay Schmid sits at fifth on the all-time list with 13, four behind Liz Flack who hit 17 in her Green and White career. With her 11 home runs this season, freshman Jenny Scherer ranks sixth on the all-time home run list.

THERE’S NO E IN SABO:
Junior outfielder Stephanie Sabo has been perfect in the field since earning an every day starter role in 2006. In 88 games, Sabo has registered a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. In 2006, she totaled 38 putouts and one assist. Thus far in the 2007 campaign, she has 46 putouts with two assists and is the lone Eagle starter who has not recorded an error.

PITCHING UP THE CAREER LISTS
:
Seniors Aimee Woodrum and Michelle Lloyd continue to log innings and strikeouts, moving up the EMU career pitching record list in each category. Woodrum ranks sixth in innings pitched with 400, while Lloyd has thrown 365 innings (ninth all-time). The tandem currently ranks fourth and fifth on the EMU career strikeout list with Lloyd leading with 302, while Woodrum has 285. The EMU career leader in each category is Marci Kelly who threw 780 innings and registered 484 strikeouts from 1994-96.

SCHERER NAMED MAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Freshman Jenny Scherer was named Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week. Scherer cranked out four extra base hits including two home runs helping the MAC West Division leading Eagles to a 2-2 record for the week. Scherer batted .417 (5-for-12) with four RBI, three runs, three walks, a double, a triple and a 1.167 slugging percentage. The freshman outfielder went 4-for-7 at the plate with three RBI and a home run to lead EMU to a doubleheader sweep over Ball State, April 27. She also accounted for the Eagles’ lone run in a 3-1 setback to Miami, April 29, with a solo home run.
