Clark Named to All-Region Team for Second Consecutive Season

Eagles’ shortstop continues to collect honors

YPSILANTI, Mich. — Eastern Michigan University softball senior Lauren Clark was named to the 2007 Great Lakes All-Region softball first team, the National Fast Pitch Coaches Association announced Wednesday morning. Clark becomes the first player in school history to be named first team All-Region twice in her career also garnering the honor in 2006. The EMU record setter was also named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.             

Along with becoming the league’s third ever two-time MAC Player of the Year award winner, Clark has been named first team All-MAC and to the MAC All-Tournament team each for the second straight season. She is the EMU career home run record holder with 24. She also ranks third all-time in career doubles (40) and RBI (94).           

In conference games, Clark batted .433 with 18 runs, 10 doubles, a triple, four home runs, 10 RBI and totaled a .791 slugging percentage. She led the league in doubles and finished second in runs scored (18) and batting average. Clark finished third in the conference in hits with 29 in league games. For the season, Clark totaled 18 multi-hits games, including recording three hits in five different contests. Clark strung together a career-high 12 game hit streak. Her first home run this season gave her sole possession of the EMU career home run record. Clark posted 11 multi-hit games against conference opponents this season. Clark set the EMU single-season home run record with 13 in 2006.          

During the MAC Tournament, she batted .333 (5-for-15) with four runs scored, two doubles, two RBI and a home run helping the Eagles to their first ever MAC Tournament championship and NCAA postseason appearance.

The Eagles will face No. 9 University of Michigan in the opening game of the regional round of the NCAA Tournament, in Ann Arbor, Mich., at 7 p.m., May 18. The University of Louisville and Oregon State University join the Eagles and host Wolverines to make up the four team region. EMU earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament with a 6-5 extra-innings decision over Central Michigan University in the MAC Tournament finals, May 12.
