Keppler gets only win for Eagles in losing effort
OXFORD, Ohio — The Eastern Michigan University women’s outdoor track and field team wrapped-up competition Saturday afternoon here at the Mid-American Conference Championships on the campus of Miami University. The Eagles tallied only 17 points during the three day affair, which landed them a 12th place finish. Sophomore Janice Keppler (Medina, N.Y.-Medina) posted the only win for the Eagles, taking top honors in the pole vault with a vault of 13-feet-1.5 inches.
The Zips of Akron University won the Mid-American Conference title with 154 points.
The Eagles had six top-ten finishers throughout the competition. Sophomore Melissa Green (Brecksville, Ohio-Broadview Heights) placed fifth in the 5000-meters with a time of 17:39.78. Green also finished sixth in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:00.67. Junior Kalli Williams (Dexter, Mich.-Dexter) claimed ninth place in the 10,000-meters with a time of 38:47.83.
The Eagles will now enjoy a week off before heading to the NCAA Regionals which will be held Friday and Saturday, May 25-26, in Columbia, Mo.
