COLUMBIA, Mo.- The Eastern Michigan University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams sent a combined 13 athletes to the NCAA Mideast Regional Championship, Friday and Saturday, here at the Audrey J. Walton Track Stadium in Columbia, Mo. Four Eagles posted top-five marks including senior Dave Adamek (Ridgeway, Ont.-Ridgeway Crystal Beach) who took second place with a shot put of 62-feet-2.5 inches.

The men's team tallied 26 points en route to a 13th place finish while the women's team received four points from its lone competitor sophomore Janice Keppler (Medina, N.Y.-Medina) to tie for 31st. The Tigers of Lousiana State University won both the men's and women's team compeitions, totaling 70 and 112 points, respectively.

Senior Corey Nowitzke (Monroe, Mich.-Monroe) missed his record-setting mark of 8:35.10 (set on 4-20-07) in the 3000-meter steeplechase but managed a third place finish nonetheless with a time of 8:38.24. Junior Eric Alejandro (Pembrooke Pines, Fla.-Flanagan) used his seventh place finish (:51.90) in the 400-meter hurdles preliminary round to qualify himself for the finals, where he scored a fifth place finish with a time of :51.63.

On the women's side, Keppler came in a three-way tie for fourth place in the pole vault with a vault of 12-feet-11.75 inches. The tie resulted in a jump-off which Keppler would go on to win with a vault of 12-feet-10 inches.

The Mid-American Conference office also announced this week that Nowitzke was named to the Academic All-MAC team for the 2007 outdoor track and field season.
