Men fourth, women sixth after first day of competition
OXFORD, Ohio- The Eastern Michigan University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams kicked off action Thursday here at the Mid-American Conference Championships on the camups of Miami University. The men tallied 17 points to take fourth place heading into Friday's events. The women currently have 10 points, placing them sixth.
Kent State University leads the way in the men's section with 47 points after day one while Akron University holds down top spot in the women's section with 35 points.
Both men's and women's teams won one event apiece. Sophomore Janice Keppler (Medina, N.Y.-Medina) once again notched first place in the pole vault (fifth time in six weeks) with a vault of 4.00m, which surpassed the regional mark for that event. Junior Brad Waidmann (Canton, Mich.-Canton) took first place in the decathlon high jump with a leap of 1.96m. The decathlon is through five events and will resume tomorrow.
Day two of the MAC Championships gets underway Friday with the multi-events at 9:00 a.m.
