NASHPORT, Ohio - Kent State University leads the field by 25 strokes after the first day of the 2007 Mid-American Conference Women’s Golf Championship with a 36-hole score of 602 (305-297) at Longaberger Golf Club. KSU’s Kira Meixner leads the individual scoring with a day one, one-over par total of 145 (71-74). Meixner is followed by Eastern Michigan’s Catherine Fortin (76-72=148) and Kent State’s Tara Delaney (75-74=149).
 
The Golden Flashes shot 17-over par through the first 18 holes and followed that up by turning in an eight-over par performance in the second 18 holes. Host Eastern Michigan University is in second place with a score of 627 (317-310), followed by Western Michigan (641), Toledo (647), Ohio (654), Ball State (663), Northern Illinois (666) and Bowling Green (671).
 
All five Eagles are ranked in the top 24 included sophomore Courtney Aili who carded a 159 (79-80) to tie for seventh place. Sophomore Stephany Fleet is tied for 13th with a 161 (82-79) while redshirt freshman Marjorie Thuot is tie for 16th with a 162 (80-82). Junior Paola Sanchez rounded out the lineup with a 168 (89-79) to move into a tie for 25th.
 
Ball State’s Kirsty O’Connor provided some excitement during the second round when she recorded an ace on the 145-yard par three 12th hole.

The third round of the 2007 MAC Women’s Golf Championship will get underway at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, with the final round scheduled for Sunday, April 29, at 8 a.m.
