Frankowski Named MAC Player of the Year

Eagles Earn Two All-Conference Nominees
CLEVELAND, Ohio- Eastern Michigan University women's tennis player Vanessa Frankowski (Stuttgart, Germany-Albertus Magus Gymnasium) was voted the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year, the conference office announced Thursday night. Frankowski, also named to the All-MAC first team, is joined by senior teammate Yana Parfenyuk (Ominsk, Russia-School #64) who recieved second team All-MAC honors.
Frankowski, currently ranked No. 96 in the nation, posted a 28-6 singles record in the number one slot for the Eagles this season. Frankowski is the first Eagle to do so since Victoria Domina (2004).
Frankowski's strong performance at the Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championships in October where she reached the quarterfinals led to her first national ranking of the year, debuting at the No. 45 slot. She finished the regular season on a nine match winning streak and boasted a 7-1 record in conference play, with her only loss coming in late March to Myriam Cueva (Toledo), 7-5, 6-1.
Parfenyuk, who finished the regular season with a career-best 20 wins in singles play, is a first time All-MAC selection. Playing in the three slot for the Eagles this year, she rounded out the regular season having won nine of her last ten matches with her only defeat coming in the season finale to Priyanka Parekh (Western Michigan) in three sets, 7-6, 6-7, 3-10.
Frankowskii, Parfenyuk and the rest of the Eagles will be in action tomorrow, April 27, in first round action of the MAC Championshps hosted by Toledo. The Eagles will take on the Rockets with start time scheduled for 2 p.m. in Toledo, Ohio.
