YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University women’s golf team will play host to the 2007 Mid-American Golf Championships this weekend, April 27-29, at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio. The three-day, 72-hole event will culminate with the crowning of this year's champion Sunday afternoon.

The eight MAC institutions that sponsor women's golf. Ball State University, Bowling Green State University, Eastern Michigan University, Kent State University, Northern Illinois University, Ohio University, the University of Toledo and Western Michigan University will descend on the area for a practice round, April 26, before beginning play at 8 a.m., April 26.

The move to Longaberger Golf Club marks the first time in the nine year history of the event that the MAC Championship will have moved from the southwest Ohio region. In 1999 the league title was handed out at The Golf Center at Kings Island before moving to Walden Ponds Golf Club in Hamilton, Ohio from 2000 until 2006.

In a survey of America's public golf courses (May 2004), Golf Digest named Longaberger Golf Club one of 16 five-star courses and listed the club among the top 10 of all courses opened within the past five years as well as one of the Top 10 in service. The course also was named America's Best New Upscale Public Course of 2000 by Golf Digest. Longaberger Golf Club is located about 45 miles east of Columbus off St. Rt. 16, north of the intersection with St. Rt. 146 in eastern Licking County.

Kent State enters this year’s invitational as eight-time defending MAC Champion, as the Golden Flashes garnered a 72-hole score of 1,166 to capture the 2006 trophy. KSU’s Tara Delaney ran away with medalist honors in 2006, recording a 287 to also earn the MAC's Player of the Year Award.

Toledo finished as the team runner-up last year with a 1,226 and returns Kim Kester who carded a 300 at last year’s tournament to tie for sixth place. Finishing four strokes shy of the Rockets for second, Ball State placed third a year ago with a team score of 1,230. Western Michigan totaled for 1,231 to finish fourth, while Ohio came in fifth with a team total of 1239. EMU (1,242), Northern Illinois (1,267) and Bowling Green (1,279) rounded out the championship scoring.
