Junior Ashley Strauss earns weekly award for second time this season

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Junior Ashley Strauss was named Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week for the period ending April 22, the conference office announced Monday afternoon. Strauss led the Eagles to a 5-1 record, keeping the Eagles in first place atop the MAC West Division standings. This marks the third time that Strauss has won the weekly honor in her career and the second this season, also garnering the award March 18.

Strauss batted .600 (12-for-20) for the week, helping EMU to a 5-1 overall record and 3-1 mark in the MAC. She cranked out seven doubles, totaled 10 RBI and registered a .950 slugging percentage. Strauss' RBI single in the fifth inning against Bowling Green was the difference in a 1-0 Eagle victory, snapping Falcons10-game win streak. She posted three three-hit games and knocked in four runs in a 7-1 victory over Toledo. In game two against the Rockets she blasted a two-out two-run double to center field to send the game into extra innings.

The Eagles (17-17, 7-3 MAC) will be in action again Friday April 27, for a MAC West Division showdown with Ball State University. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the BSU Softball Complex.
