EMU wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the first. Sabo, the second batter for the Eagles, cranked a one out shot over the fence in center field, giving Eastern a 1-0 advantage. The long ball was the first of the season for Sabo and third of her EMU career.

The Eagles threatened in the bottom half of the second after freshman Jenny Scherer led-off drawing a walk. After a fielder’s choice, Grant singled though the left side of the infield. A fielder’s choice of the bat of senior Lindsay Ritz pitted runners at the corners with two outs, however a circle violation (runner was not on the base when the pitch was thrown) was called on Ritz at first during the next at bat, ended the inning.
The Green and White notched another run in the third. Senior Lauren Clark drew a one out walk. Following a fly out to left field, Strauss singled to left field. Schmid belted a gap shot to right center field, scoring Clark. Scherer hit a deep fly ball to center field but a jumping catch at the wall robber her of a three-run home run, keeping the Eagles up 2-0.
A one out single by Grant followed by a double by Ritz, put runners at second and third in the fourth. Freshman Jill Jozefowicz cranked a ball to right field, which would have landed over the fence, however a diving over-the-wall catch by Destiny Covington saved a home run, but Grant was able to advance home, extending the EMU lead to 3-0.
Kelsy Rokey accounted for VT’s lone run with a lead-off home run to center field in the fifth, 3-1.
