Baseball Holds Off Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y.
– The Eastern Michigan University baseball team increased its win streak to four consecutive games with a 5-3 victory over the University at Buffalo in Mid-American Conference action here Friday afternoon at Amherst Audubon Field.For the game, EMU (6-11, 4-0 MAC) notched five runs on eight hits leaving only five runners on base. Buffalo (1-18, 0-4 MAC) tallied 10 hits scoring three runs with 12 runners left on base.
Senior George Biddle (2-3) picked up his second consecutive win on the mound going 6.2 innings allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits with five strikeouts. Sophomore Matt Shoemaker tallied his fourth save of the season which ranks second in the MAC.
Junior Steve Bradshaw and sophomore Aaron Powell led EMU offensively each going 2-for-4 at the plate with a combined two runs scored and a RBI. Junior Jeff Davis went 1-for-5 with a RBI and run scored courtesy of his second home run of the season while junior Josh Ivan went 1-for-4 with a triple to plate two RBI.
Buffalo Junior Mike Folli led the Bulls with two doubles off three hits while senior Adam Ruszkowski struck out seven in eight innings of work on the mound.
EMU got on the board quickly as Davis led off with a solo shot over the right field fence in the first at bat of the game. Derek Lehrman followed with a single and was later driven in by a Bradshaw RBI single to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
Buffalo responded with a run in the bottom of the inning set up by a Folli double to cut EMU’s lead to 2-1.
The Bulls later tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the third inning with a run on two hits.
EMU regained the lead as Davis reached on an error by the first baseman which enabled Powell to score giving the Eagles a 3-2 lead. The lead would not last long as Buffalo once again tied the game as a run scored on an error to knot the score at 3-3.
Eastern took the lead for good in the top of the sixth inning off Ivan’s triple which drove in Todd Graves and Bradshaw to give the Eagles a 5-3 lead.
Due to possible inclement weather conditions forecasted for Sunday, the Eagles and Bulls will conclude the series with a doubleheader Saturday, March 31 at 12 p.m.
