Baseball Completes Series Sweep Over Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio. – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team rallied form three runs down for a 7-3 victory over Bowling Green State University to complete a three-game sweep of the Falcons in Mid-American Conference play here Sunday afternoon at Steller Field.
For the fourth consecutive game, EMU (5-11, 3-0 MAC) tallied over 10 hits with 13 and notched an impressive 35 hits over the three-game series against Bowling Green (10-11, 0-3 MAC). Junior Steve Bradshaw led the way for the Eagles going 4-for-5 at the plate with a RBI. Junior Jeff Davis went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored while sophomore Aaron Powell also hit 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Sophomore Sean Hoffman (2-0) picked up his second win of the season tallying seven strikeouts on seven scattered hits with three earned runs in 7.2 innings of work. Sophomore Matt Shoemaker also notched his team leading third save of the season.
Bowling Green jumped on the board to take a early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a three-run home run by Brandon McFarland that cleared the wall in left-center field.
Eastern responded in the top of the third inning on a two-run homerun from senior Derek Lehrman who also drove the ball over the left-center fence at nearly the exact same point as McFarland’s homerun to drive in Davis. Junior Jeff Hehr then walked, stole second base and was plated by a RBI double by Bradshaw to tie the game at 3-3.
With two outs in the top of the sixth inning, Powell singled to left field and was driven in with a RBI double from senior Brain Blackburn. Davis followed with a single to score Blackburn giving the Eagles a 5-3 lead.
Powell got things going once again in the top of the eighth inning with a lead-off double to center field. Davis flied out to left field to score Powell and extend the Eagle lead to 6-3.
Hehr led off the top of the ninth inning with a homerun to left center to seal the 7-3 victory for EMU.
The Eagles travel to Rochester, Mich. for a non-conference tilt against Oakland University Wednesday afternoon, March 28, at 3 p.m.
