Men's Swimming Defeats Miami

YPSILANTI, Mich. -- In a battle for Mid-American Conference men’s swimming and diving supremacy, Eastern Michigan University downed rival Miami University, 150-88, here Saturday afternoon at Jones Natatorium to conclude the regular season. Both teams entered the meet unbeaten in MAC dual meets this season, but the Eagles now sit alone atop the league standings with a perfect 4-0 mark. EMU has finished with an undefeated league record the past nine seasons, winning 47 consecutive MAC meets, dating back to the 1998-99 season.
 
Derick Roe clocked in with the top time in both the 50 (21.00), and 100-yard (45.93) freestyle races. He was also a leg in the winning 400-yard medley relay team with Mark Kurtzer, Andrzej Olesinski and Chris Meyers.
 
Jason Piercey won the 200-yard free with a 1:43.00 time, Donald Ellison claimed the 200-yard IM race in 1:55.17. Dan Wohl was victorious in the 200-yard butterfly (1:53.17), while Steven Bowling won the 200-yard backstroke with a 1:54.05 clip.
 
The Eagles swept the diving events with Mitch Kellerman winning the one-meter dive and Matt Guinan claiming the three-meter event.
 
The Eagles will return to the pool, Feb. 22-24, in search for their 26 league title at the 2007 MAC Championship hosted by Buffalo. EMU has won a league-best 25 MAC Championships, with the Eagles winning six of the past seven championship meets. Head Coach Peter Linn has led the Eagles to 15 titles over his 18 year span at EMU and finished runner-up the other three seasons.
