Eagles Fall to Falcons in Overtime, 2-1

EMU ends the 2007 season with a 7-8-4 record
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — The Eastern Michigan University women’s soccer team fell to Bowling Green State University, 2-1 in the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament, here at Cochrane Field. With the loss, the Eagles end the season with an overall record of 7-8-4. Bowling Green advances to the semi-finals of the MAC Tournament in Muncie, Ind.
EMU was able to strike first when junior Carissa Wilson notched her second goal of the year with a header off a Maggie Christensen pass. Wilson scored right before the half, sending the Eagles into the break with a 1-0 advantage.
In the second half, Bowling Green would knot the game at 1-1 with just over four minutes remaining. Samantha Bland scored her second goal of the year with a header off a Meagan Moran corner kick. Neither team would score again during regulation, sending the game to overtime.
The Falcons would take advantage of the swing in momentum, scoring just 1:36 into the extra frame. Corbie Yee found the back of the net off an assist from Alexa Arsenault.
For the game, the Eagles were outshot 18-12. Of the 12 shots the Eagles recorded, only two were on goal, compared to 11 for the Falcons. Freshman goalkeeper Maggie Manville posted nine saves on the day.
With the win, BGSU advances to the quarterfinals of the MAC Tournament to play the host and top-seeded Ball State Cardinals. Semifinal action will begin Friday, Nov. 9 in Muncie, Ind.
