EMU Drops Regular Season Finale to Kent State

KENT, Ohio -- Despite four Eagles posting double figures in kills, the Eastern Michigan University dropped its regular season finale 3-1 (30-32, 29-31, 30-24, 19-30) to Kent State University Saturday evening here at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center. Senior Becky Reenders led all players by equaling a career-best with 25 kills on the night.

With the victory the Golden Flashes up their record to 20-9 and 11-4 in the Mid-American Conference, while the Eagles drop to 18-13 and 8-8 in league action. Now with the regular season complete the Eagles know they will be the No. 7 seed in the upcoming MAC Volleyball Tournament and will face No. 10 Akron Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the Convocation Center.

Becky Reeder's equaled her career-best 25 kills, which she had previously set last season against Columbia, Sept. 16, 2006, at the College of Charleston Invitational. Other EMU players to reach double digits in kills included Abby Reenders with 18, Victoria Randolph with 13 and Jennifer Swartz with 11.

The foursome also eclipsed double figures in digs as seven players on the squad notched 10-or-more digs, with all nine players recording at least three digs on the night. As a team the Eagles recorded 130 digs which ranks 12th best in school-history and the most since 2005 when EMU tallied 124 at Toledo, Oct. 21.

Kent State was led by Anja Knabe-Paulsen with 18 put-aways, she also recorded 24 digs as the Golden Flashes racked up 120 during the four-game match. Ashley Feutz posted a double-double with 17 kills and 15 digs along with Lauren Jones’ 11 kills and 14 digs.
