YPSILANTI, Mich. –– The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2007 Mid-American Conference Tournament with a 3-0 (30-27, 30-17, 30-22) sweep of the University of Akron Tuesday evening here at the Convocation Center. The fourth seeded Eagles will now square off with No. 2 Western Michigan University Friday, Nov. 16, at 1:30 p.m. at the SeaGate Centre in Toledo, Ohio.

With the victory the Eagles improve to 19-13 on the season while the Zips conclude the season at 10-20. Tonight's win marks the sixth consecutive season the Green and White have won a game in the MAC Tournament dating back to a Nov. 26, 2002 decision over Marshall University, Nov. 26. Overall the Eagles are now 8-11 all-time in MAC Tournament action.

As had been the case most of the season, senior Becky Reenders (Grand Haven, Mich.-Grand Haven) led the team in kills, posting 12 in the three-set decision. Sophomore Victoria Randolph (Cincinnati, Ohio-Mt. Notre Dame) followed with 10 put-aways and senior Abby Reenders (Grand Haven, Mich.-Grand Haven) recorded her 18th double-double of the season with 11 kills and 14 digs. Senior Kate Sulewski (Ottawa Lake, Mich.-Bedford) spread the ball around, notching 43 assists along with two kills and 14 digs.

Akron was keyed by Elizabeth Martin, who finished with a double-double that included 11 kills and 18 digs. Jess Antpsz also had nine kills and four total blocks for the Zips

The Eagles will be playing the second game on Friday with No. 6 Central Michigan facing No. 3 Miami at 11 a.m. Then at 5 p.m., No. 5 Kent State and No. 4 Bowling Green will hook up. Finally, No. 1 Ohio University squares off with either No. 8 Northern Illinois or No. 9 Ball State at 7:30 to conclude the day's action. Semifinal action will take place Saturday, Nov. 17, and the championship match will happen Sunday, Nov. 18, at 1 p.m.
