YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team dropped a hard fought 3-0 (25-30, 31-33, 24-30) match to Mid-American Conference East Division leader and nationally ranked Ohio University Saturday night here at the Convocation Center. The Eagles once again were led by the twins Becky Reenders and Abby Reenders leading the team in hitting percentage and kills.
With the loss, the Eagles drop to 13-8 overall and 2-3 in conference action, while the No. 21 ranked Bobcats improve to 12-4 and 5-1 in the MAC.

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team dropped a hard fought 3-0 (25-30, 31-33, 24-30) match to Mid-American Conference East Division leader and nationally ranked Ohio University Saturday night here at the Convocation Center. The Eagles once again were led by the twins Becky Reenders and Abby Reenders leading the team in hitting percentage and kills.
With the loss, the Eagles drop to 13-8 overall and 2-3 in conference action, while the No. 21 ranked Bobcats improve to 12-4 and 5-1 in the MAC.
Abby Reenders (Grand Haven, Mich.-Grand Haven) paced the team offensively in hitting with .250 percent (12-6-29). Sister Becky Reender (Grand Haven, Mich.-Grand Haven) led in kills with 12 and totaled 11 digs for another double-double. Lauren Boehmer (Livonia, Mich.-Ladywood) and Katie Bates (Delta, Ohio-Evergreen) added eight kills a piece for the Eagles. Sophomore Kim Jarzynka (Pittsburgh, Pa.-Baldwin) tallied a team-best 12 digs.
For the match Ohio hit.264 percent combining for 63 kills, 54 digs and 59 assists. Melissa Griffin led the attack, totaling 16 kills for the Bobcats.
First game action saw the Eagles and Bobcats go back and forth in points with the two teams tied 10 times throughout the frame. Eastern went on a 5-0 run to reclaim the lead in the middle of the game before Ohio bounced back and tied it at 17. The two continued to battle, changing leads several times before the Bobcats pulled away for the 30-25 win.
Game two was a thriller between the two teams. The Eagles offense sprung to life with a .277 hitting percentage besting Ohio’s .236 attack percentage. Ohio took the first five points of the game before the Eagles rebounded and cut their deficit to two at the 8-6 mark. The Bobcats added four more points to the board before the Eagles added three more of their own. The two continued to tango before the Eagles tied the game for the first time at 19 and then again at 20. Eastern took its first lead in game two at the 21-20 mark. The score was tied once again at 21 and then again at 22 before Ohio took three straight points and EMU was forced to take a timeout. Eastern kept things alive when the Bobcats hit 29 point mark. The Eagles scored four straight to tie the game at 29. The two exchanged points before the Bobcats escaped with a 33-31 win.
Eastern took the momentum from the end of game two to start off game three, scoring first four points but Ohio would not go away as the two teams continued to tie the game and change the lead several times before the Bobcats ran away with a 30-24 win.
The Green and White will travel to Miami next Friday, Oct. 12, for a 7 p.m. match and then off to Bowling Green Saturday, Oct. 13, for a 3 p.m. match.
