SWIMMING TRAVELS TO BUFFALO:
Both the Eastern Michigan University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will be in action Saturday, Jan. 27, for a Mid-American Conference tilt with the University at Buffalo. The league meet is slated to begin at 1 p.m. in UB’s Alumni Arena Natatorium. The match-up will be the final regular season meet for the women’s team before it looks to defend its league title at the 2007 Women’s MAC Championship meet hosted by EMU, Feb. 14-17.

SCOUTING THE BULLS: The UB men’s team won its first three meets of the season downing Ball State, Niagara and Canisus but have dropped its last two contests to Ohio and Miami. The women’s team is 2-6 on the season and winless in league action at 0-6 after dropping its last meet 181-119 to Bowling Green, Jan. 20.

SUCCESS AGAINST UB: The University at Buffalo has never defeated either of the EMU swimming and diving teams. The Eagles’ men’s squads are 7-0 versus the Bulls, while the women hold a perfect 10-0 advantage. Last season, the men defeated UB 123-71, while the women won 125-103, Feb. 4, 2006.

MEN DOWN WAYNE STATE:
The EMU men’s squad defeated Wayne State University 142-93, Jan. 20, in Jones Natatorium. Sophomore Derick Roe clocked in with the top time in both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle races.

WOMEN POST TWO VICTORIES: The women’s team posted back-to-back wins with victories over WSU 137-96, Jan. 20, and Akron, 174-122, Jan. 21. Junior Madeleine Pilchard paced the Eagles’ attack winning five individual events, including all four freestyle races versus the Zips.

STREAK IMPROVES TO 45: The EMU men’s swimming and diving team defeated Ball State, 135.5-99.5, Jan. 13, to move its MAC regular-season dual meet victory total to 45 consecutive wins. The Eagles are 2-0 on the season in league meets. EMU has been perfect in conference action the past eight seasons and has not lost a league meet since the 1997-98 campaign.

EAGLES TO HOST 2007 MAC CHAMPIONSHIP: The MAC Championship will be returning to Jones Natatorium in 2007, as the Eagles will serve as the host for the Women’s MAC Championship meet, Feb. 14-16. This year will mark the 11th MAC Championship hosted by EMU since 1973, when the league meet was held in Ypsilanti during EMU’s inaugural MAC season.

LINN TO BE INDUCTED INTO HALL OF FAME: Former EMU swimmer and current head men’s and women’s swimming and diving coach Peter Linn will be inducted into the EMU Hall of Fame, Feb. 10, 2007. As a swimmer at EMU, Linn earned three letters, from 1971-73. He swam on EMU teams that won the NAIA National Championship (1970-71), and the NCAA Division II National Championship (1971-72). Linn is heading into his 19th season at the helm of the men’s team and third for the women’s squad. He has led the Eagles to 16 MAC championships in his tenure and has been named MAC Coach of the Year seven times. The induction ceremony for the Class of 2006 will be held in conjunction with an EMU women’s basketball game against Ohio.
