YPSILANTI, Mich. -- After combining to win 17 of the first 21 events, the EMU men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept Wayne State University, here Friday afternoon in Jones Natatorium. The men won 142-93, while the women were victorious 137-96.
YPSILANTI, Mich. -- After combining to win 17 of the first 21 events, the EMU men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept Wayne State University, here Friday afternoon in Jones Natatorium. The men won 142-93, while the women were victorious 137-96.
The men’s team claimed nine races, while the women won eight before both meets went to exhibition for the last five events.
Derick Roe was victorious in both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle races and Jason Piercey (1000 free), Dan Kish (200 free), Matt Guinan (three-meter dive), Ryan Fulkerson (200 butterfly), Mark Kurtzer (200 backstroke), Jeff Montague (500 free) and recently named Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week Dan Wohl (400 IM) also clocked in with first place times.
Sarah Chrzanowski posted the top score in both the one and three-meter diving events. Jacky Carey (200 free), Catherine Lee Ha (50 free), Madeleine Pilchard (100 butterfly), Hannah Burandt (100 free) and Mackenzie Steger (100 backstroke) all touched the wall first in their events.
The women’s squad will be in action again tomorrow, Jan. 20 for a 1 p.m. MAC dual meet with Akron in Ocasek Natatorium. The men will be idle until Saturday, Jan. 27 when they travel to Buffalo for a 1 p.m. league meet.
