LAFAYETTE, La.
– Jerry Babb and the Louisiana-Lafayette offense put Eastern Michigan in an early hole and held on to bounce the Eagles, 33-14, here at Cajun Field Saturday evening.

With the victory the Ragin Cajuns improve to 2-2, while the Eagles drop to 0-5 on the season.

Babb threw for 184 yards and two scores in the first half alone to give the defending Sun Belt Conference champions a 23-0 lead at the break. The senior finished with 202 yards on 17-of-21passing.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Andy Schmitt led the Eagles offensively, going 23-for-35 for 171 yards in the air while rushing for 62 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Senior Eric Deslauriers racked up nine catches for 100 yards receiving while Dontayo Gage added seven catches for 37 yards.

Defensively, sophomore Daniel Holtzclaw led Eastern with seven tackles, while sophomore Lyle Garrison added six tackles.

After stopping the Ragin' Cajuns on their first possession, the Eagles drove to the ULL 32-yard line but a sack of Schmitt took EMU out of field goal range.

The Green and White were unable to convert on fourth down and UL-Lafayette took over at their own 35-yard line. The Cajuns responded to take the lead at 7-0 with an eight-play, 65-yard drive, capped off by a nine-yard touchdown run by Babb with 7:10 showing on the clock in the first quarter.

Following a three-and out by EMU, ULL was once again able to put points on the board as Babb found Jason Chery for a 38-yard touchdown strike with 2:11 still remaining in the first quarter.

After another stalled drive by EMU, the Ragin' Cajuns took over at their own three-yard line. ULL was able to flip field position thanks to a 31 yard dash by Tyrell Fenroy out to midfield. Six plays later Babb found Chery for a 17-yard touchdown pass on 4th-and-5 to make it 20-0 with 4:54 to go in the half.

Louisiana-Lafayette tacked on a 44-yard field goal just before the half, to push the advantage to 23-0 and effectively put the game out of reach as the teams headed to the locker room.

Following the intermission things kept rolling in ULL's favor, as the lead grew to 33-0 before the Eagles were able to cut into the deficit via a pair of rushing touchdowns by Schmitt in the fourth quarter to make it 33-14.

EMU will be idle next weekend before battling Bowling Green State University, Oct. 13, at Doyt Perry Stadium in Bowling Green, Ohio. Kick off is set for 4 p.m
