EMU Alumni Compete at 89th Michigan Open

Korey Mahoney finishes tied for seventh
ACME, Mich. - Recent Eastern Michigan University graduate and 2006 Michigan Amateur medalist Korey Mahoney (East Lansing, Mich.-East Lansing), shot a final round 68 Thursday to finish in a seventh-place tie tallying a five-under par total of 282 (67-76-71-68) at the 89th Michigan Open being held at The Bear and The Wolverine Golf Course in the Grand Traverse Resort. Former EMU golfer TJ Shelton (Saline, Mich.-Saline) also carded a five over total of 292 (75-66-79-72) to finish tied for 41st place.
Scott Hebert shot a 12 under total of 275 (68-70-67-70) to win an impressive sixth Michigan Open championship.
Other EMU golfers competing in the event were: senior Kevin Ackford (Midland, Mich.-Dow) who shot a 73-77 two-round total of 150, junior Bryan Hasse (Interlochen, Mich.-Interlochen) who fired at 79-70 total of 149 and senior Clay Poff (Mio, Mich.-Mio AuSable) who tallied a 78-71 total of 149. All three missed the cut.
Mahoney, the 2006 MAC Golfer of the Year, wrapped up his collegiate career with a tie for 47th-place (223, +10) at the NCAA Central Regional, May 18-20. He finished the 2005-06 campaign with seven top-ten finishes and 10 top-30 finishes. For his career, Mahoney won four tournament titles, including two this past season.
