Josh Ivan increases hit streak to 19 games
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team dropped its second straight game and series finale to in-state rival Central Michigan, 5-1, here at Theunissen Stadium, Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, EMU (26-20, 13-8-MAC) falls two games behind CMU (30-18, 15-6 MAC) in the MAC West Division standings.
The Eagles were led by sophomore Josh Ivan who increased his hitting streak to 19 games going 1-for-3 at the plate. Junior George Biddle (5-5) picked up the loss going 7.0 innings with five strikeouts and five earned runs.
Junior Kurt Lauscher picked up the win for CMU striking out four Eagles over eight innings allowing only one earned run on five hits for his fifth win of the season. The Chippewas were led offensively by Noah Lankford who went 4-for-4 with one run scored.
Central got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning on a Brian Campbell single which drove in two runs for 2-0 advantage.
Eastern responded with in the top of the third inning as Jeff Hehr doubled to left center field to score Davis and cut the lead to 2-1. However, this would be the only run the Eagles would muster against the CMU pitching staff.
CMU increased its lead to 4-1 with two runs on two hits in the bottom of the sixth inning and added another run in the eighth to seal to victory.
EMU will travel down the road to Ann Arbor, Mich. for a non-conference game against cross-town rival Michigan, May 10, at 6:35 p.m.
