Eastern Michigan Sophomore Pitcher Collects First Career Academic Award
YPSILANTI, Mich.— Eastern Michigan University sophomore baseball player Jeff Fischer (Farmington, Mich.-Farmington), has been named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA (College of Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-District IV baseball second team, the organization announced Thurs day. This is Fischer’s first academic accolade in his brief two-year career.
Fischer, a 3.42 Biology major, is having an outstanding season thus far as he is near the top of every major Mid-American Conference statistical category. Currently, he is first in: wins with an 8-3 record, ERA (2.03), shutouts (1), opponent’s batting average (.228) and second in complete games (4). Fischer also ranks eighth in strikeouts (86), and innings pitched with 93.0 (6.64 innings pitched per game). As of May 7, Fischer is 32nd nationally in ERA (2.03) and 39th in victories (8).
For the season, Fischer has appeared in 14 games, 10 as a starter with four complete games. He also leads the team with 2.03 ERA, and 86 strikeouts while only allowing just 79 hits, 32 runs and 21 walks.
