UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Despite the rain postponement, the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team carded a 295 in the second round of the 2006 Rutherford Intercollegiate to surge to the front of the 15-team field after two rounds at the par 72, 6,859-yard Penn State Blue Course. The Eagles posted a team score of 595 for the day (300-295). The Miami University is in second with a 600 (297-303), and George Washington University is in third place with a team total of 601 (314-287).
Eastern Michigan has four players in the tournament’s top 20, including leader Korey Mahoney at 141 (68-73). Mahoney is one of only two golfers in the tournament to be under par. The Eagles also had a quality performance from senior Peter Sauerbrei and sophomore Graham Hill who are tied for ninth with a 151. Other EMU scorers include Chris Ross with a 152 (76-76) and Bryan Haase with a 156 (80-76).
The Eagles and the rest of the tournament field are currently on the course for the final round which began at 10:45 a.m.
