Women's Golf To Take Part in Rocket Classic

Tournament set for April 17-18 at the Dornoch Golf Club in Delaware, Ohio

The Eastern Michigan University women’s golf team will participate in the the Rocket Spring Classic this Monday and Tuesday, April 17-18, at the Dornoch Golf Club in Delaware, Ohio. The tournament, played at the par 71 course, features 11 teams, including EMU and Toledo.
The teams are scheduled to play one round Monday and Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start scheduled for each morning.  The following teams will be competing in the event: Bowling Green, Butler, Cleveland State, Detroit, EMU, IPFW, Oakland, Ohio, St. Francis (Pa.), Toledo and Youngstown State.

LAST TIME OUT FOR EMU: The Eagles finished in second place at the EKU Spring Invitational after carding a 318 in the final round. The University of Toledo, led by the tournament’s individual champion Tammy Clelland, captured the team title with a score of 922, 30 strokes ahead of the Eagles.
Two Eagles placed in the Top 10 with sophomore Catherine Fortin claiming her second runner-up honor of the season with a 227 (77-77-73). Freshman Stephany Fleet carded a 235 (77-78-80) for a sixth place showing, the best of her young collegiate career. Junior Katie Strawser finished in 32nd place with a 54-hole total of 247 (84-83-80), junior Kelly Boogaard tied for 36th with a 251 (77-89-85) and sophomore Paola Sanchez rounded out the lineup with a 252 (84-81-87). Competiting as an individual, freshman Courtney Aili tied for 64th with a score of 259 (88-82-89.)
