Women's Basketball Hands Out Postseason Awards

Eagles honor seniors Ryan Coleman, Nikki Knapp and Melis Ulker
YPSILANTI, Mich. -- The Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball program put a wrap on its historic 2005-06 season this evening (Thursday, April 13) with its annual awards banquet at Washtenaw Country Club. Five postseason team awards were handed out, with All-MAC selections Ryan Coleman and Patrice McKinney sharing the Most Valuable Player Award.
Other award winners included junior Brittany Tyson taking home the Most Improved Player Award, junior Sarah VanMetre garnering the Hustle Award and freshman Kendra Gallert collecting the Defensive Player of the Year Award. The final honor of the night was given to junior Annie Malatinsky and sophomore Canea Williams, who shared the the Coaches Award.
EMU posted a 22-7 overall record and 15-1 mark in MAC play. The Green and White’s 22 wins tied for the second most in program history and marked EMU’s third consecutive 20-win season. The Eagles made their third consecutive national postseason tournament appearance, with a berth in the 2006 Postseason Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT).
