Eagles reach .500 mark with seventh consecutive win
YPSILANTI, Mich. – Sophomore pitcher Jeff Fisher tossed a career-high 10 strikeouts to lead the Eastern Michigan University baseball team to a 6-1 win over Buffalo here Saturday in Oestrike Stadium in a Mid-American Conference game. The victory was the seventh consecutive for the Eagles who, for the first time this season, reached the .500 mark with an 11-11 record, (3-1 MAC). Buffalo falls to 5-19, (0-5 MAC).
For the second consecutive game, the EMU pitching staff went the distance as Fisher hurled a three-hitter with eight scoreless innings on 33 batters faced.
Senior Isaiah Gainforth led the Eagles offensively going 1-for-2 from the plate with one run scored and a team-high three RBI coming off a three-home run.
Buffalo opened up the game in the first inning scoring their first run in MAC competition this season as Eric Flynn’s double drove in Mike Folli from first base giving the Bulls a 1-0 lead. The lead would not last long as EMU tied the game, 1-1, on a Steve Bradshaw single that scored Josh Ivan from third.
Eastern took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth inning as Gainforth’s three-run shot brought in Bradshaw and Brian Blackburn to give the Eagles a 4-1 advantage.
In the bottom of the seventh, Kyle Road scored on a wild pitch and a sacrifice bunt by Ivan brought in Derek Lehrman to give EMU a 6-1 lead.
The final game of the three-game series between EMU and Buffalo is set for Sunday, April 2, at 1 p.m.
