Eagles Notch Sixth Consecutive Victory
YPSILANTI, Mich. – Junior pitcher George Biddle tallied his first career complete-game shut out as the Eastern Michigan University baseball team blanked Buffalo, 10-0, here Friday afternoon at Oestrike Stadium. With their sixth consecutive victory, the Eagles improve to 10-11, (3-1 MAC) while Buffalo falls to 5-18, (0-4 MAC).
Biddle went the distance tallying eight strikeouts with eight scattered hits on 34 batters faced. Sophomore Steve Bradshaw and Junior Brian Blackburn notched their first career home runs in back-to-back fashion during the third inning. For the game, Bradshaw went a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate with two runs scored and two RBI while Blackburn hit 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.
The EMU bats jumped to a quick start in the bottom of the first with five runs on four hits off senior Buffalo pitcher Matt Johnson to give the Eagles an early 5-0 lead. The lead increased to 7-0 on back-to-back home runs by Bradshaw and Blackburn that broke the game open in the bottom of the third.
The Eagles chalked on two more runs in the bottom of the fourth as Trumaine Riley scored on a throwing error and a Bradshaw double drove in Jeff Hehr from second. EMU added one more run in the fifth en route to a 10-0 victory.
The second of the three game series between EMU and Buffalo is set for Saturday, April 1, at 1 p.m.
