Eagles slated for atleast nine games
EAGLES TO FACE RANKED TEAM, AGAIN: The EMU softball team is slated for a twinbill with No. 11 Georgia, March 1. The Eagles have already played three games against teams ranked on the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll, dropping all three contests. EMU came up just short in its upset bid against No. 11 Washington falling 1-0, in the final day of competition at the LSU Tiger Classic. The Eagles had the tying run at third base with no outs in the seventh but failed to bring it in.
FINAL INNING HEROICS: With the score knotted at 1 with two outs in the seventh, junior shortstop Lauren Clark hit a three run homerun to boost EMU past Mercer 4-1, Feb 27. The rounder tripper was Clarks second of the season.
CLARK EARNS MAC AWARD: Junior shortstop Lauren Clark was named the Mid-American Conference West Player of the Week for the period ending Feb. 19. Clark batted .375 (6-for-16) in EMU’s season opening weekend of competition at the LSU Tiger Classic. She totaled team-highs in hits (six), runs (four), and was a perfect two-for-two in stolen base attempts. She also drew three walks. For her performance, Clark was named to the 2006 Easton Tiger Classic All-Tournament Team.
TOMCZAK LEADS LEAGUE: Junior pitcher Kelly Tomczak (1-1) is leading the MAC in opponent batting average, limiting her opponents to a .065 average. Earlier this season, Tomczak and senior Nikki Denman combined on a one hit performance to lead the Eagles past Western Kentucky, 5-1, Feb. 18. Tomczak pitched five innings of no hit ball, striking out eight WKU batters.
MERCER CLASSIC CANCELLED: The final two days of the 2006 Mercer Comfort Inn Classic were canceled due to rain and muddy field conditions. The Eagles split a pair of games in day one of competition falling to Austin Peay State 6-1, and rebounding to defeat Boston University 3-2.
