BERKELEY, Calif. – A 22-5 second half run put the game out of reach as the Cougars of Chicago State led wire-to-wire, as the Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball team fell to CSU, 72-61, Saturday evening in the consolation game of the Golden Bear Classic here at the Haas Pavilion.

EMU was led by freshman Brandon Bowdry who, for the second straight game, established a new career-high with 23 points. He also set a personal-best in rebounds, pulling down 10, for his first career double-double. For his efforts, Bowdry was named to the all-tournament team.
With the loss EMU falls to 1-7, while the Cougars improve to 4-7 on the season. The University of San Diego upended host University of California Berkeley, 72-67, in the tournament's championship game.
CSU’s Royce Parran scored a game-high 24, while EMU freshman Devon Dumes added 11 for the Eagles.
The Eagles out rebounded CSU 42-22, but committed 24 turnovers. The Cougars were able to hit 8-of-14 three pointers, while the Eagles finished just 3-of-13.
Parran came out with the hot hand for the Cougars, hitting their first four field goals, including three three-pointers to give CSU a 13-5 advantage with 15:54. The Cougars maintained an eight point lead, 26-18 with 4:57 in the half, but a 10-3 Eagle run cut the lead to one, 29-28 with 2:06 on the clock. CSU was able to take a 33-30, into the lockeroom at the half.
Despite out-rebounding the Cougars, 26-10, in the first half, turnovers haunted the Eagles as they totaled 12 for the half. CSU connected on five three-point tries, while EMU was 0-of-7 behind the arch. Parran led all scores with 15, while Bowdry paced the Eagle offense with 14.
The Eagles closed the gap to one, 34-33 , but an 8-0 run CSU run caused head coach Charles E. Ramsey to burn a timeout with 14:41 remaining and the score at 42-33. The Cougars continued to pull away on a 14-5 run, 56-38 to put the game away as the Eagles weren’t able to get any closer than 11 the rest of the game.
The Eagles will not be in action again for 12 days due to finals and holidays, and will return to the court Thursday, Dec. 21, for a 3 p.m. contest with Northern Colorado at the Convocation Center.
