DETROIT, Mich.—The nation's leading offensive rushing team lived up to its billing here Saturday in a 49-21 Navy win over Eastern Michigan in the third annual Collegiate Clash game held indoors at Ford Field.

Navy entered the game with an average of 324.67 yards per game on the ground and was just short of that mark with 323 yards against the Eagles. The visitors scored on all six of its chances in the red zone.

Head coach Jeff Genyk's squad needed to turn up the offense against the Midshipmen and accounted for 358 yards in total offense and scored three touchdowns. Yet, in the end it was turnovers that devastated the Eagles as they lost one fumble and threw two interceptions in the loss.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Andy Schmitt (St. John's, Mich.-St. John's) led the Eagles with his first 300-yard total offense game, completing 24-of-37 passes for 220 yards and rushing 16 times for 89 yards with a touchdown run of two yards.

In an attempt to give the offense some added firepower backup quarterback Tyler Jones (Belleville, Mich.-Belleville) saw some action at tailback and the redshirt sophomore responded with touchdown runs of two and five yards.

Navy jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter and quickly added two more scores in the second quarter for a 28-0 advantage.

Eastern fought back with Schmitt's touchdown run with just 00:06 left in the first half and Andrew Wellock's (North Canton, Ohio-Green) PAT made it 28-7.

The Eagles came right out on the second half kickoff and Wellock recovered his own on-sides kick to give Eastern the ball at midfield. That trick play worked to perfection in execution and finish as the Eagles topped it off with a five-yard touchdown run by Tyler Jones and a Wellock PAT to cut Navy's lead to 28-14.

Eastern would not come any closer, however as Navy added 21 points in the second half. The Eagles closed out its scoring on a two-yard Tyler Jones run and a Wellock PAT early in the fourth quarter.

Defensively the Eagles were paced by true freshman Andre Hatchett (Indianapolis, Ind.-Warren Central) with 15 tackles.

EMU will return to Mid-American Conference play next Friday, Nov. 17, traveling to Kent State University. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at Dix Stadium.
