Swimming Falls in Season Opener

YPSILTANTI, MICH. – The EMU men’s swimming and diving team opened its 2006-07 season with a 165-107 loss to the University of Michigan, here Friday, at Jones Natatorium. The Eagles fall to 0-1 while the Wolverines improve to 1-1.
EMU claimed the top spot in three of the dual meet’s 15 events. Sophomore Derick Roe paced the Eagles with second place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (21.48) and 100-yard freestyle (47.12), while anchoring the winning 200-yard freestyle relay (1:21.01).
Sophomore Ethan Crabtree, junior Mike Rowland and senior Preston Revere joined Roe on the first place 200 freestyle relay team.
Sophomore diver Matt Guinan finished first in the three-meter diving event, while sophomore Donald Ellison won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:07.59). Ellison also placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 58.77 mark.

The Eagles will be in action again Friday, Oct. 27, for a Mid-American Conference dual meet with Ohio University, set for 5 p.m. at Jones Natatorium. EMU has won 43 consecutive MAC regular season dual meets dating back to the 1997-98 campaign.
