Volleyball Drops 3-0 Match to BGSU

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University (5-14, 0-8 MAC) volleyball team was defeated by Bowling Green State University, 3-0 (28-30, 24-30, 20-30), Sunday afternoon here at the Convocation Center. The victory extended the Falcons’ winning streak to 14 and marked the team's fourth consecutive sweep of a Mid-American Conference opponent.
Senior Lindsay Piccolini recorded 16 kills for EMU, which was out-hit .200 to .132 for the match. It was the 18th time in 19 matches that Piccolini has reached double-digits for kills. Junior Becky Reenders added eight kills while junior Corey Calcamuggio and freshman Victoria Randolph both turned in six kills.
The Falcons (18-2, 8-0 MAC) who are receiving votes in the latest CSTV/AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll, had two players with double-digit kills. Bowling Green was led offensively by Madeline Means with 12 kills and Stephanie Swiger with 10 kills. Chrissy Gothke finished with 35 assists and Chelsey Meek had a match-high 29 digs.
BGSU jumped out to a 14-7 lead in the first game and never looked back. Piccolini led the way with six kills and a .667 attack percentage and senior libero Ashley Cudney had seven digs to keep things close in game two but Bowling Green used an 4-0 run to close out the game after Eastern pulled within a point a 25-24. The Falcons jumped out to a big lead early once again in game three to close out the Eagles.
The Eagles continue its four-match homestand Wednesday, Oct. 18, with a MAC West Division tilt versus the University of Toledo. First serve is set for 7 p.m. The match was moved from Friday, Oct. 20, so please take notice of the date change.
