YPSILANTI, Mich.-- Senior guard Ryan Coleman (Detroit, Mich.-Comm. & Media Arts) was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the period ending Jan. 8. This marks the first time this season that she has won the award and the eighth time in her career.

In wins over Oakland and Northern Illinois, Coleman averaged 22.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game. In EMU’s conference opener, Coleman paced EMU’s 73-59 triumph over Northern Illinois with 19 points, seven rebounds, six assists, one blocked shot and one steal. She scored 13 of her points in the second half to help EMU break from a 29-29 halftime tie. Earlier in the week, Coleman had 25 points in a 73-48 win at Oakland.

Coleman has already made a place as one of the best ever to play at EMU. She became the 12th member of EMU’s 1,000-Point Club last season and now stands second in scoring at 1,501 points. Coleman also is in the top 10 in three-pointers made (third, 156), three-pointers attempted (third, 403), three-pointers made (third, 156), and field goals made (fifth, 537), blocks (fifth, 56), steals (fifth, 229), assists (sixth, 305) and rebounds (eighth, 647). Coleman is just the second player in MAC history to record 1,500 points, 600 rebounds, 300 assists and 200 steals in their career, Toledo’s Kim Knuth (1995-99) is the only other player with 2,509 points, 779 rebounds, 484 assists and 368 steals.

Having started 95 games in her career, Coleman has averaged 15.5 points on 43.2 percent shooting from the field and 38.7 percent from the three-point arc, adding 6.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 2.4 steals a game. She also has played over 850 minutes each season and 3,190 career minutes, averaging 32.9 minutes a contest.

The Eagles are next in action Tuesday, Jan. 10, when it battles the University of Toledo Rockets. Tip-off is scheduled of 7 p.m. in the Convocation Center.
