HEADING INTO MAC ACTION: The Eagles will open their 32nd Mid-American Conference season with a two-game road trip, Jan. 4-7. EMU and Buffalo will battle in the first game of 2006, Jan. 4, at 7 p.m. in Buffalo and then the Eagles move on to Oxford, Ohio Saturday, Jan. 7, for a 4 p.m. game against the Miami RedHawks. The first year of MAC play for EMU was 1974-75 when the then-Hurons went 12-14 overalland 4-9 in league play. EMU has wonthree Mid-American Conference titles:1987-88, 1990-91, and 1995-96, and the Green and White captured MAC Tournament crowns in all three of those years in addition to winning the tournament title in 1997-98.

TOUGH BUFFALO TEAM ON THE HORIZON: EMU will meet the Mid-American Conference’s hottest team Wednesday, Jan. 4, when the Eagles take on Buffalo. Eastern, now 3-5 on the year, will have to battle a Buffalo squad that is 10-1. The Bulls’ only loss is a 92-63 non-league decision to Boston College. Buffalo is coming off a 56-51 win at Delaware State, Dec. 30, while EMU dropped a 76-70 decision at Northern Colorado that same day.

TWO FOR 20: EMU put two players into the 20-point category in the 76-70 loss at Northern Colorado, Dec. 30. Senior forward John Bowler (Chicago, Ill.-Notre Dame H.S.) turned in the 18th double-double of his career with 21 points and 10 rebounds while freshman Carlos Medlock(Detroit, Mich.-Murray Wright) added 20 points, the second time this season he has scored 20 (21, Dec. 17 vs. Youngstown State).

NEW FACE ON THE BENCH: EMU’s roster has been bumped to 14 with the addition of football player Travis Lewis (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Loy Norrix). The 6-foot-2 Eagles’ wide receiver, will dress for the first time when EMU and Buffalo meet, Jan. 4. Lewis, a third-year sophomore, played in all 11 football games in 2005 and started nine times. He caught 33 passes for 331 yards and recorded one receiving touchdown.

BOWLER CONTINUES UP THE SCORING/REBOUNDING CHARTS: Senior forwardJohn Bowler (Chicago, Ill.-Notre Dame H.S.) became the 25th player in EMU history to reach the 1,000-point career scoring plateau when he scored nine points with six rebounds in the 67-62 win over Tulsa, Dec. 22. Bowler added 21 at Northern Colorado (Dec. 30) and is ranked 23rd with 1,023 points. Bowler has played in 92 games, 63 as a starter, and has recorded 56 double-figure scoring games, 18 double-doubles, and has scored 20 or more points eight times. He is currently 14th in rebounding with 576 career caroms.
