Softball Team Earns Sixth Highest GPA in Division I

Team honored for second consecutive year

YPSILANTI, Mich.-- Eastern Michigan University’s 2004-2005 softball team posted the sixth highest team grade-point average in Division I collegiate softball, and was recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, the

organization announced today. EMU’s overall team GPA was 3.461.

Eastern Michigan University softball players Nikki Denman (Toledo, Ohio-Sylvania Southview) and Liz Flack (Jackson, Mich.-East Jackson) were named to the 2005 Academic All-Mid-American Conference softball team.

EMU’s softball team, in its fourth year under Head Coach Karen Baird, posted a 17-24 overall record. The Eagle’s 11-13 record in Mid-American Conference play, clinched the team’s first appearance in the MAC tournament since the 1999 season, and just the fifth time in program history.

The Eagles return 15 letterwinners, including six starters from last year’s team, and will begin the 2005-06 campaign playing in the LSU Invitational on Friday, Feb. 1 at 3:30 p.m.
