Rachel Amity is in her first year as the Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Counseling after joining the department in June of 2025.

A licensed clinical social worker and seasoned mental performance specialist, Amity coordinates, supervises, and delivers comprehensive mental health services to the university’s diverse student-athlete population. Her work focuses on empowering athletes to thrive both on and off the field through proactive wellness programming, performance enhancement, crisis response, and individualized clinical care.

Amity’s career spans over a decade at the intersection of collegiate athletics and behavioral health. Prior to joining EMU, she held several leadership positions in student-athlete well-being at the University of Wyoming, including Director of Student Athlete Well-Being. Earlier in her career, she played a formative role in the University of Michigan’s nationally recognized Athletes Connected program, where she contributed as Assistant Director, Counselor, and Program Coordinator.

Amity earned her Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan in 2019, specializing in interpersonal practice and mental health. She completed a Graduate Certificate in Sport and Performance Psychology from the University of Western States in 2025. She holds certifications as a Mental Game Coach and Adult Mental Health First Aid Instructor.

She is a member of several professional organizations, including the Clinical/Counseling Sport Psychology Association (CCSPA), Alliance of Social Workers in Sport (ASWIS), National Association of Social Workers (NASW), and the European Network of Young Specialists in Sport Psychology (ENYSSP). Amity is also an instructor for the University of Michigan’s Sport Social Work Certificate Program, where she mentors emerging professionals in the field.

Her early experiences as a student athletic trainer and sports statistician fueled her passion for athlete development, which she now channels into creating supportive, high-performance environments for student-athletes. A frequent speaker and writer on topics such as mental performance, identity development, and inclusive athlete care, Amity continues to shape the national conversation around athlete mental health and well-being.
