Clifford Sims is in his first year as the Senior Associate Athletics Director of Facilities, Operations, and Capital Projects after initially joining the department in October of 2021.
Sims oversees the management of all athletic facilities and game day operations for EMU’s home athletic events, while also directing external events to generate revenue. He also serves as the sports administrator for women’s soccer, cross country, and track & field.
Sims arrived in Ypsilanti after spending nearly eight years at the University of Detroit Mercy in a handful of different positions. He was originally hired as the Assistant Director of Operations in September 2014 and was promoted to Director of Operations in September of 2015. He also served as the Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities in the summer of 2017 before becoming the Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing & Event Operations in the summer of 2019. It was Sims' second stint working at the UDM after serving on the facilities/operations staff from August 2013 to January 2014.
Prior to returning to Detroit, Sims worked in sales with the Lansing Lugnuts, a Single-A minor league affiliate for the Toronto Blue Jays organization. He assisted with the sales of new Group Outing ticket packages as well as Luxury Suite Rentals and Group Venues to both the business and consumer sectors.
Sims also had stints working as the Reed City Assistant Athletic Director as well as working on the event operations staff at Olivet College.
Sims earned his undergraduate degree in Sports Management from Olivet College and received a Master of Arts in Sports Administration from Wayne State University in May 2014.
He played college football at Olivet and was an All-Conference cornerback.
Sims lives in Commerce Township with his wife Angelique and children, Eliza, Colton, Stormy and Kingston.
