Ryan Yip was named as an Assistant Men’s Golf Coach at Eastern Michigan University in July 2024.

The first full-time assistant coach in EMU program history, the 39-year-old Yip spent six years on what is now the Korn Ferry Tour, achieving six Top 10 finishes in 117 events. Additionally, Yip competed on the PGA Tour Canada, securing victory at the 2009 Jane Rogers Championship. In 2013 and 2014, he played on the Asian Tour and OneAsia Tour, where he won the 2014 PGM Port Dickson Championship. Yip also participated in three PGA Tour events: the 2013 U.S. Open, the 2018 Canadian Open (finishing T22), and the 2019 Canadian Open.

Yip returned to the Kent State program in August 2019, serving as the men’s assistant golf coach. Since joining the coaching staff at KSU, Yip has significantly contributed to the academic and athletic success of the team. Under his guidance, the team has produced eight Academic All-MAC players and six All-American Scholars. The Flashes also achieved the second-highest team GPA of 3.76. On the golf course, the team secured three team titles, five individual victories, eight All-MAC selections, two MAC Golfers of the Year, and one Freshman Golfer of the Year. The Kent State golf team was ranked as high as 28th in the country under Coach Yip’s leadership, with Chris Vandette individually ranked 10th.

Yip had a remarkable collegiate career as a Golden Flash under Coach Herb Page. He earned All-MAC First Team honors in each of his four years and was named MAC Freshman of the Year in 2003 and Co-MAC Golfer of the Year in 2005. During his time at Kent State, he won three individual titles and was inducted into the Varsity “K” Hall of Fame in 2019. Yip graduated with the fifth-best career stroke average (73.80) in Kent State history.

He is an alumnus of Bishop Carroll High School and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sport and Fitness Administration/Management from Kent State University in 2007.
