Calvin Custance joined EMU's Student Athlete Support Services in August 2026 as a graduate assistant after gaining experience in football operations, recruiting, player development, and academic support at Central Michigan University.
Throughout his undergraduate career, Custance served in several roles with the Chippewas football program. He began as a student equipment manager before moving into recruiting and operations, where he assisted with practice and camp logistics, coordinated recruiting visits, managed team travel operations, and supported student-athlete academic scheduling. He later served as a defensive student assistant, collaborating with the coaching staff on opponent scouting reports, defensive analytics, game planning, film breakdown, and practice preparation. He also traveled with the team to provide game day support.
In addition to his football responsibilities, Custance worked as an academic tutor in Central Michigan's Student Academic Services office. He provided one-on-one and group tutoring, monitored academic progress, and helped student-athletes develop accountability, self-advocacy, and effective study habits.
A native of Clinton Township, Mich., Custance graduated from Fraser High School in 2023 before enrolling at Central Michigan. He earned a bachelor's degree in Sport Management with a minor in Athletic Coaching in 2026.
