Tyler Golsteyn
Tyler Golsteyn enters his third season with the Eagles and first as the women’s volleyball program’s associate head coach, after spending his first two seasons at Eastern Michigan as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.

Golsteyn has mentored volleyball student-athletes from the collegiate and high school levels for over nine years. With EMU, the Nashville, Tenn. native primarily focuses on offense and setting. In addition, Golsteyn serves as the recruiting coordinator where he is the primary contact for potential student-athletes, and coordinates on-campus visits and recruiting trips.

During the 2021 season, Golsteyn helped guide the Eagles to nine wins, an improvement from the 2020-21 campaign.  Golsteyn was part of the coaching staff that mentored two All-MAC selections in Raeven Chase and Samantha Basham. Overall, it was the fourth-straight season Eastern Michigan has tabbed a volleyball student-athlete on the first team.

Individually, Golsteyn helped guide Chase and the rest of the Eagles’ defense to the fourth-best blocking team in the league. Chase led the MAC with 135 total blocks, averaging 1.23 blocks per set and third in the league in hitting percentage (.352). The Toronto, Ontario native finished 10th in the regular season in the NCAA in total blocks (135) and fourth in the nation in solo blocks (36). Chase also moved into sixth all-time in program history with 62 career solo blocks. Additionally, her 36 solo blocks in 2021 ranks eighth in the programs record book for solo blocks in a single season.

The defensive specialist himself worked directly with the team’s dig leader Kamryn Stilwell. Stilwell ranked fifth in the MAC, averaging 4.66 digs per set and tallied 513 total digs, placing her fifth in the conference and 54th nationally.

During the 2021 shortened spring season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Green and White recorded an 8-12 mark in Mid-American Conference play. The Eagles led the MAC averaging 18.2 digs per set, which was good for 19th among Division I programs.

Golsteyn mentored Bella Hommes, EMU’s primary libero, to a stellar freshman season. Hommes led the Eagles with 383 total digs (4.91 dps). Her digs-per-set average ranked fourth in the Mid-American Conference.

In his one season with East Carolina University as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, he helped ECU attain a 19-11 overall record; which tied for the fewest losses in ECU program history, and coached right side Bri Wood to the American All-Conference Second Team. Golsteyn assisted in the implementation of the Pirates' new offensive system where ECU finished third in the AAC in both kill percentage (.236) and hitting efficiency.

Prior to his arrival at ECU, Golsteyn had a one-year stint as a volunteer assistant coach at Purdue University, assisting in all aspects of on-court training with a primary focus on blocking and attacking. He also helped mentor Sherridan Atkinson and Blake Mohler to American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American accolades, Big-Ten all-conference honors, and AVCA All-Northeast Region recognition.

From 2016-18, he served as a graduate assistant and the director of volleyball operations at North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D. The Bison went 52-39 with a 30-16 Summit League mark during Golsteyn's three years on staff. During Golsteyn's tenure, NDSU posed as the best defensive team in the league. The Bison led the Summit League with 18.95 digs per set, 1.63 aces per set, and second with 2.25 blocks per set in 2017.

In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Golsteyn has also worked extensively at the club and high school level including stints at Fort Wayne's Bishop Luers High School, Impact VBC, Pineapple Sport One Volleyball Club, and Alliance Volleyball Club.

The Nashville, Tenn. native played in 81 matches for Purdue Fort Wayne as a setter and libero from 2011-16. Golsteyn was a four-time Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association All-Academic selection.

He graduated from Purdue Fort Wayne in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in business accounting and management and completed his master's degree in Business Administration at North Dakota State in 2018.
