No stranger to the Eastern Michigan University volleyball family, Camila (Olaio) Runha returns for her third year as an Eagles’ assistant coach after spending the 2006 campaign as the program’s graduate assistant. Prior to rejoining EMU, Runha worked three years in international relations in Brazil.
"Camila is the right fit for us here at Eastern Michigan University," said head coach Kim Berrington. "She is a huge asset in recruiting, as she has an understanding of being a Division I level player. Combine that with her international coaching and playing experience and she adds a new dimension to our staff and program. Plus adding an alum is always a special hire."
One of the most complete athletes ever to don the Green and White, Runha earned four letters as a volleyball player from 1998-2002. She is EMU’s career leader in aces with 233 and also ranks on the career charts in assists, digs and games played. Known for her trademark powerful jump serve, Runha broke the Mid-American Conference and EMU single-season records for career service aces, each of which had stood for more than 15 years until she broke them.
The 29-year old Runha (9-23-79) led the Eagles in aces every season during her career, in addition to topping the MAC in assists per game in 2002. For her efforts during her senior campaign, she was named first-team All-MAC and became just the third player in school history to garner All-Region honors, as an honorable mention All-Mideast selection.
A native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Runha played for Tenis Club where she was named the best all-around player in 1995. She was also selected the best passer in 1993 and 1994, the best blocker in 1995, the best setter in 1996 and the best hitter in 1997.
Runha then joined the EMU volleyball program in 1998 and graduated in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in marketing and is currently pursuing her master’s degree in business with an expected graduation date later this year.
Runha was married to Delano Runha, Aug. 3, 2009, in Las Vegas, Nev.
