    Volunteer Coach - Distance
The 2021-22 season will mark the second year Abel Flores has served as a volunteer coach for the program's track and field team, where he coaches the distance runners.

Flores graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 2018 where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Criminology & Criminal Justice. As a harrier, Flores and Co. dominated the Mid-American Conference, bringing home the trophy every fall. In 2016, the Eagles recorded a perfect score of 15 at the MAC championship race, taking spots 1-5 with Flores notching fourth place in 25:10.4. The Ohio native improved upon his time the following season, grabbing the fifth spot in 24:41.9. In cross country, the harrier earned All-MAC status three times.

On the track, Flores produced solid numbers for EMU. In 2017, the Ohio product registered personal-bests in the 5000m (14:36.91) and 10000m run (30:10.09). Later that season, Flores produced a fourth-place finish in the 10000m race in 30:46.96 at the outdoor MAC championships. During his redshirt senior season, Flores ran a career-high time of 8:29.72 in the 3000m run at the 2018 Meyo Invitational.

Prior to his arrival in Ypsilanti, Mich., Flores prepped at Defiance High School in Defiance, Ohio. There, Flores was a the runner-up in the state cross country meet and captured the 3200m title on the track as a Bulldog.
