Entering her fourth year at Eastern Michigan University in 2024-25, Annie Cantu was named an Eastern Michigan University rowing assistant coach on Sept. 9, 2021. Cantu, a Michigan State University graduate, works primarily with the novice squad as well as assisting with talent transfer recruiting, and alumni and parent outreach.

In 2021-22, Cantu aided Assistant Coach/Head Novice Coach Nicole Marek in leading the First Novice Four boat to a first-place finish over Duquesne on April 9.  

Prior to her arrival in Ypsilanti, Cantu spent a year stint as an assistant coach for the Dallas Rowing Club. She coached the technical skill of rowing to the DRC Junior Rowing team. While at DRC, Cantu also spent time at Real Freedom Enterprises, where she worked in digital recruiting. 

Cantu was a four-year letterwinner at Michigan State University, where she rowed in the First Varsity Eight boat her last three seasons. The Plano, Texas native earned academic honors at the Spartan Excellence Gala in 2018. 

Cantu started rowing in eighth grade when she joined the Dallas Rowing Club. She spent five years with the Juniors program before heading to Michigan State. 

She graduated from MSU in May 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology with minors in human behavior and social sciences.
