Tyus "Ty" Hooks is in his second season as the women’s basketball graduate assistant on Fred Castro’s staff in 2022-23.
Prior to his arrival in Ypsilanti, Hooks spent four seasons as an undergraduate student manager with the women’s basketball program at The University of Mississippi.
While at Ole Miss, Hooks rose through the ranks to become the team’s head manager in 2019, a post which he held until his departure. His roles with the Rebels included assisting in the day-to-day operations management for the team, facilitating practice and game day setup, and leading a team of his fellow undergraduate managers.
A standout high school player himself, Hooks played four seasons as a member of the varsity squad for Columbia (Miss.) High School. He earned conference player of the week honors twice, and led the team in three point field goals as a senior.
Hooks graduated from Mississippi with a bachelor’s degree in Arts in Political Science in the spring of 2021.
A native of Columbia, Miss., Hooks currently resides in Ypsilanti.
