The 2010-11 season marks the second for Ron Austin as the Eagles’ director of basketball operations after playing collegiate basketball at Lamar University and professionally in Portugal.

Austin is responsible for coordinating the Eagles’ travel arrangements, directing the summer basketball camp program, supervising the managerial staff, as well as other administrative duties.

A four-year letterwinner for the Cardinals, Austin finished his career ranked fifth in three-pointers made (155) and 13th in school-history in points (1,251). He was also selected Lamar’s 2003 Athlete of the Year while being named first-tam All-Southland Conference in 2002-03.

A two-time team captain for Lamar, Austin reach eddouble digits in points 60 times, including posting 34 points versus Nicholls State Unviersity (Jan. 17, 2002) and against McNeese State University (Feb. 3, 2003).

Following graduation, Austin took his game overseas to play for team Lusitânia in Angra do Heroísmo, Azores, Portugal. He was with the team for the 2003-04 and 2004-05 campaigns. Austin averaged 31 points 11 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game as the team won the Portuguese Basketball League Cup with a 34-6 record.

The 28-year-old Austin (11-13-80) is a 2003 Lamar University graduate with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

A 1998 graduate of Brother Rice High School in Bloomfield Township, Mich., Austin averaged 15.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists as a senior for Head Coach Bill Nortin. He scored 28 points to help Brother Rice win the district championship game his final year. He also attended Winchendon (Mass.) Prep School, where he was a dean’s list honoree while helping the basketball team post a 30-6 mark.
