The 2023 season will mark the first for Tyra Prince as an assistant coach with the Eastern Michigan University lacrosse program after Head Coach Sara Tisdale announced her addition to the staff Aug. 26.
Prior to her arrival in Ypsilanti, Prince was named as an assistant coach of the Chippewa’s in January 2022 before making the decision to follow Tisdale to Eastern. As a member of the Chippewas’ coaching staff, she assisted with the offense and transitional movements.
During her coaching stint at CMU, Prince mentored former teammate and 2022 MAC Offensive Player of the Year, Audrey Whiteside as well as five All-MAC honorees -- (three) First-Team and (two) Second-Team.
In the 2022 spring season, Prince helped guide the Chippewas to their first NCAA tournament appearance, first Mid-American Conference championship, and second regular season championship. Prince was a major contributor to the team’s 12-8 overall record with a 8-2 league mark. CMU finished the 2022 season with the most wins (12), most points (396), most goals (285), and most assists (111) in program history
A former standout on the field, the Ontario native arrived in the mitten state in 2016 to be a part of the very first lacrosse team at Central Michigan. The five-year letter-winner and starter was named to the 2017 Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team, the 2018 All-Southern Conference Second Team, and the 2021 All-MAC First Team, while also receiving multiple academic honors. In 2018, Prince had the honor of being a part of the program’s very first Southern Conference Regular Season Championship.
Prince received her bachelors degree in Psychology from Central Michigan in 2021 where she also minored in legal studies and child development. Additionally, the Canadian earned a Master’s of Science in Administration degree with a concentration in Value Driven Organization in 2022.
Prince currently resides in Ypsilanti, Mich.
