Neil Herman enters his second season as director of football operations at Eastern Michigan University in 2025. Herman had spent the previous six seasons as an integral part of the University at Buffalo football program.
Herman was promoted to the Bulls' director of football operations in 2022, which included a 2022 Camellia Bowl victory over Georgia Southern. Prior to his stint as the DFO, he worked three seasons with the Bulls' special teams.
In his previous roles, Herman was responsible for breaking down and analyzing all special teams units. He also prepares scouting reports and advises lead coaches on game plans. During Herman's tenure at UB, the Bulls advanced to three consecutive bowl games: the Dollar General Bowl (2018), Bahamas Bowl (2019), and Camellia Bowl (2020).
Herman came to UB from Buffalo State, where he served as special teams coordinator and tight ends coach for eight seasons. He helped lead the Bengals to three ECAC bowl games. Buffalo State ranked in the top three in the conference in net punting in five of its eight seasons.
A 2002 graduate of Niagara University, he earned his degree in Logistics & Transportation Management. Herman was an offensive and video intern at UB during the 2009 season, and he also served as an assistant coach at St. Francis High School from 2007 to 2008.
Herman has a daughter, Avery.
