Stan Parrish was named interim head coach on Nov. 8, 2013, after starting the 2013 season as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for EMU. In addition to his role as interim head coach, Parish will continue to coach the quarterbacks
Parrish, who served as head coach at Ball State University from 2008-10, has worked with numerous quarterbacks at the college level that went on to play in the NFL, including Tom Brady, Nate Davis, Brian Griese and Drew Henson.
Parrish, who was an assistant football coach at Ball State from 2005-08, was elevated to the school’s 15th head coach on Dec. 18, 2008. He led the Cardinals to the GMAC Bowl in Mobile, Ala., at the conclusion of the 2008 campaign and then served as Ball State’s head coach during the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
In 13 years as a collegiate head coach, Parrish compiled a 63-60-3 career coaching record in stints at Wabash (1978-82), Marshall (1984-85), Kansas State (1986-88) and Ball State (2008-10).
Prior to becoming the head coach, Parrish was BSU’s quarterbacks coach in 2005 before being promoted to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2006. In the 2006 season, he was one of five finalists for the Broyles Award, which goes to the top assistant coach in the nation. Parrish engineered a Ball State offense which helped the Cardinals to a 12-1 record, an 8-0 Mid-American Conference mark, the MAC West Division Championship and back-to-back bowl appearances for the first-time in school history. Ball State’s offense ranked sixth in the nation in passing efficiency, 11th in total offense, 17th in scoring offense, 21st in passing offense and 27th in rushing offense.
Under the guidance of Parrish, Ball State’s offense passed for a school record 3,704 yards and 30 touchdowns in 2007, breaking the previous marks of 3,112 yards and 27 TDs set in 2006. In 2005, Parrish helped quarterback Joey Lynch throw for a then-school record 18 touchdown passes and 1,982 yards via the air, which ranked as the third highest single-season total in Ball State annals.
Before heading to Muncie, Ind., he spent the 2002 and 2003 seasons as the quarterbacks coach of the National Football League’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In 2002, he tutored starting quarterback Brad Johnson, who led Tampa Bay to a 12-4 regular-season record and the first Super Bowl Championship in the franchise’s history.
Parrish spent six years on the staff at the University of Michigan. At U-M, he was the quarterbacks coach each year at Michigan plus was the team’s offensive coordinator in 2000 and 2001. Parrish helped the Wolverines to a 1997 berth in the Rose Bowl and the school’s 11th national championship. He tutored quarterbacks Brian Griese and Tom Brady while at Michigan.
Parrish and his wife, Ruth, have one son, Andrew, and one daughter, Libby.
