Entering his first year at EMU in 2021-22 is Michael McClanathan, who came to Ypsilanti after spending five years at Drake University.

McClanathan returned to his alma mater for the 2016. McClanathan spent three seasons as offensive line coach after spending the previous two season as assistant offensive line coach for the Bulldogs.

In 2019, Chris Evans earned first team PFL honors while Jacob Bacon and Isaiah Kent-Schneider earned PFL honorable mention honors. Bacon and Kent-Schneider collected CoSIDA Academic All-American Honors. Bacon was a first-team Academic all-American for the second-straight year. He is the first Bulldog to earn back-to-back Academic all-America first-team honors. Kent-Schneider earned third team honors. Bacon later was a finalist for the 2019 STATS Football Championship Subdivision Doris Robinson Scholar-Athlete Award.

In his first season leading the offensive line, McCLanathan helped lead Payson Wick and Ryan Lemke to First Team All-PFL honors and Jordan Lewinsky to Second Team All-PFL accolades. The front-five paved the way for the Bulldogs to average 378.1 yards of total offense per game.

In 2016, McClanathan helped coach a pair of All-Pioneer Football League selection, Payson Wick and Ryan Lemke.

As a student-athlete, McClanathan was a four-year letterwinner for the Bulldogs from 2012-15.

He received a bachelor's degree in secondary education in December 2015.
